The Preston Link
The Preston Link is conceived as a cluster-based micro-community housing model that accommodates a diverse spectrum of residents, with particular emphasis on young adults (41%), families (26%), and the senior population (33%) seeking affordability, adaptability, and a sense of belonging. Each cluster is organised around a communal hub, providing opportunities for social connection and shared activity while preserving the privacy and independence of individual households, echoing in the form of a contemporary village.
The project is related to the site with its lower built form scaled to harmonise with the surrounding townhouse fabric, while its proximity to public transport and distance from Melbourne CBD ensures both accessibility and affordability. Constructed as a lightweight multi-storey CLT structure, the design prioritises sustainability, efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The result is a resilient and inclusive urban habitat that reimagines everyday living by fostering community, embracing sustainability, and reinforcing Preston’s identity as a place of connection and diversity.
