A number of subjects offered by the University are termed 'quota subjects' or 'quota restricted subjects'. These are usually workshops or subjects with a travel component where the capacity for large enrolment is limited by available resources such as workshop space, machinery and accommodation as well as because of the mode of teaching.
This page includes information regarding closing dates and application instructions.

Application and Selection
Selection into quota subjects is generally based on academic merit or enrolment order. For some subjects, further selection criteria apply. Please check each subject's Handbook entry for complete selection criteria information.
How to Apply
Competitive Selection (Academic Merit)
- Check the subject's Handbook entry to ensure you meet the subject prerequisites. Students should also take in to account any recommended background knowledge mentioned in the Handbook.
- Enrol in the subject via your study plan by the enrolment deadline (see above). Students who meet the requisites but are unable to enrol via the portal should contact Stop 1 online, on the phone or in person. Please remember to send emails from your university email account and include your student ID, full name, course, and the requested subject code to be considered for selection.
- In cases where students are required to submit additional documentation for selection (e.g. essay, statement of intent, expression of interest, portfolio), these documents should be submitted either to the subject coordinator or via the link on the subject handbook page. Please refer to the relevant University Handbook subject entry for more information.
- Selection will occur after the enrolment deadline.
- Once selection has been finalised, applicants will receive notification of their application outcome via email. It is expected that the notification will be sent out within 5-10 business days of the enrolment deadline.
- Unsuccessful applicants will be removed from the subject and advised via email.
First In, First Served (Enrolment Order)
- Check the subject's Handbook entry to ensure you meet the subject prerequisites. Students should also take in to account any recommended background knowledge mentioned in the Handbook.
- Enrol in the subject via your study plan by the enrolment deadline (see above). Students who meet the requisites but are unable to enrol via the portal should contact Stop 1 online, on the phone or in person. Please remember to send emails from your university email account and include your student ID, full name, course and the requested subject code to be considered for selection.
- Enrolment into a subject selected on a 'First In, First Served' basis is determined by automated quota. Your enrolment confirms your place in the subject. If you choose to withdraw you will be forfeiting your place and may be unable to enrol again. Enrolment will close at 11:59pm on the day of the deadline.
