The Haus

The Haus aims to instigate and bring forward the strength within the individual and wider collective, fostering a sense of belonging within a unified community. The architectural response is then informed by the diversity of the queer communities lived experiences, embracing visibility and representation.

Translating this participation of visibility and representation, the possibility of performative occupancy is brought forward. This occupancy opens choice to residents, taking agency over their degree of engagement. The individual is then invited into the expression of the anatomy of the architecture, walking the line of exposure and retreat.

Security as a central construct brings forth the fortified relationship between the inside and outside. Where the community sits within a design that embraces its identity, welcoming those who do not feel appreciated outside of the walls of the site. Softening the interior condition of the architecture then encourages this relationship between neighbourhood and built form.

As a formal translation and transgression of heteronormative spaces, the community is promoted in a way that encourages a step into non-traditional modes of engagement. The architecture celebrates a diversity of living conditions that are then explored through threshold considerations. Organising these secondary communities with proximity of communal spaces.
