Beyond the Frame

In an era of urban sprawl and disconnection from food origins, suburban living in Melbourne transforms into communal sanctuaries for nourishment. The kitchen evolves from a private space into a portal for cultivating social bonds, fostering both intentional and organic connections among residents.

Central to this vision is radical simplicity. The grid, often perceived as restrictive, is redefined as a flexible framework for growth and adaptability. The grid's expansion invites a rich array of programs shaped by residents, empowering them to sculpt their living environment with intention.

The buildings are designed as two structures surrounding a central open space, while facades, adorned with vegetation, invite a future vision.

Elevated upon slender timber structures, these homes exemplify ‘light living,’ minimizing ecological footprints while amplifying social impact. Beneath them, communal gardens, farmers' markets, and greenhouses serve for collaboration, transforming food production into a cherished ritual of connection.

Here, the act of dwelling becomes an art of connection, inviting us to rediscover the profound relationship between our food, our neighbors, and the earth beneath our feet.
