The Unified Tapestry
The middle ground between extortionately priced, low density detached homes and high-density affordable housing scarcely exists within Melbourne, often leaving larger, low-socio economic families at the very fringes of cities, or inhumanely packed into inadequately sized units.
The design intent is thus a mediation between affordability and the inherent right to comfortable living, often not granted to families of 5 or more.
Through shared facilities such as bathrooms, kitchens, and living spaces, more floor area can be dedicated to offering individual bedrooms for all residents, thereby providing outlets for social connection while also recognising the non-negotiable importance of self-determination and privacy.
As such, the 12-bedroom main unit design facilitates a regenerative nest in which change is not met by moving partitions but rather, by providing enough space to grow.
... A kinetic design which weaves together individual threads to create a unified tapestry.
