Adaptable Communal Living

National home prices in Australia have risen 33 per cent since the start of the 2019 pandemic. At the same time the interest rate rose significantly. Meaning fewer families have the finiancial capabilities to achieve the great Australian Dream. The reason for the housing crisis we are experiencing now is due to the lack of housing in the market. At the same time, Australia’s population has been set to grow to 35.9 million by 2050. This means Australia needs to increase affordable social housing to meet the housing needs of the population.

The project seeks to create affordable and sustainable social housing using the following ideas. Sharing economy, designed for diversity, and sustainable building practice.

The community that will be living in this project is diverse. With 50% of residents aged 18-35, 30% aged 36-65, and 20% aged 66+. Family sizes vary, with 65% having 1-2 members and 35% having 3-5 members. The project needs to provide sustainable, affordable housing for people across all age groups, all socioeconomic levels, and people from all different cultural backgrounds.
