Compact Modular Community
Post COVID boom in cost of construction has pushed the affordable housing market to think innovatively on reducing costs as well as be flexible to meet changing market and user demands where home is not longer as a single function space.
This project aims to build a modular prefabricated housing project with standard members and components based on a 5x5 grid steel frame structure. The units are enclosed by CLT walls and floors which are customized to user requirements, location and orientation. The arrangement of units allows collective gathering spaces in courtyards as well as shared private spaces between units to encourage a interacting and community sense.
Gallery access allows neighbours to connect easily, facilitating incidental meetings and providing communal shared spaces. The roof area is transformed into communal roof gardens which allow shared activities like games, clothes drying and relaxation.
Due to increased complexity and demand for versatility of spaces, the units are designed with adaptable modular furniture which can transform to meet the changing needs of users with time. The Sofa and table in the day can be converted into a bed at night and separated with sliding partition walls, etc. This allows multiplicity of use in small areas and reduces ecological footprint for initial construction and ongoing operations
