"Meet me in the Quad, by the gum tree"
A low and medium-rise neighbourhood of quadrangle blocks formed around communal space and the shared resource of wild landscape. Set in the middle ring suburbs of Melbourne amongst high-rise apartment blocks and low-rise suburbia.
This model maintains a human scale, where occupation is visible and encouraged through comfortable pockets of space. Courtyards used for productive gardens, shared kitchens and play spaces build on successful aspects of the existing site context (Peacock Street, Dunstan Reserve) while avoiding the failures of less occupied, large-scale developments (along Albion Street).
Floor plans follow a simple rule, expanded and decreased across the site. Within these, spacious living areas allow for flexibility and diverse, long-term occupancy, always situated in proximity to the landscape to enhance the daily routines of domesticity.
