Kibbutz Preston

I intend to develop an urban ecology - not just a structure, but a unified system of living. Exploring the Kibbutz typology, my design offers respite from capitalism, with permanent residents working within the complex in exchange for lodging, a stipend and food.

Expanding on the idea of Gesamtkunstwerk, I aim to broaden the total work of art beyond the physical dimension of the architecture, to include the systems of relationships and lives the building fosters.

This total work of living will manifest in a donut economy; predicated on agrarian and related technological activity; a start-up incubator and workshops for mid stay guests; as well as Onsen hotel and public programs.

The design should bring distinct individuals and groups together through collective work and shared utility, enabling the deconstruction of their self-referential ‘bubbles’.
