the OUTSIDE-IN LIVING SYSTEM

Touch the earth lightly within the dwelling's footprint, feel the wind and fresh air from the nature refresh and calm the body towards the outside from the inside the belonging self and neighbourhood. "A community Iust like a house. enable residents to have a strong connection, be open to the natural environment, so typical for Australia." - Glenn Murcutt.

Achieving through an efficient CLT grid system, plus a humble expression of Australian vernacular building language, the OUTSIDE- 1 N LIVING SYSTEM (collaborative housing development) intends to experiment and advance the external-drive domestic living style to create direct dialogue with nature (light air, water) in a medium-density context at Brunswick \/'lest, a middle-ring suburb in Melbourne.

Humbly speaking to the western and southern landscape, the masterplan accommodates tenants of diverse backgrounds, family sizes, and most importantly lifestyles. They would most likely enjoy a natural outlook from their semi-private and semi-external dining space living closer to that matter and distance.

In the scheme of efficient rhythmic beauty, the structural simplicity of CLT prefabricated panels lowers the embodied energy of the building, while the spatial adaptability of the standardized units of 1 to 3.5 bedrooms provides the potential for growing family sizes and needs. Through controlled spatial duplication and rotation, the flexible floor plate is stacked up, and connected by a shared circulation gallery and lighted courtyard gardens forming a clustered community. Responses to Melbourne s weather across seasons, low-cost adjustable louvres, windows, blinds, and bi-folding doors further allow tenants to control the living style inside their units.and garden space over the site, we come together at the naturally gardens.
