Familiar Peculiar

Suburban life is autonomous and idiosyncratic in its own right. The project concerns the peripheral conditions of the Brunswick West through shifting lenses. Analytically and critically adapt both the familiars and uncanny nature of the suburbia into a collective assemblage.

Rather than pursuing unity and predetermined functionality of a typical suburban floorplan, the design proposed a juxtaposition of often overlooked domestic artefacts, embracing the mix-match and looseness quality of the domestic occupation. Tracing from a square-grid planning logic, the strange yet quintessential spatial conditions offer a strategic ambiguity inside and outside, allowing everyday life to emerge.

Drawing on the industrial motif of the past, the end proposal is comprised of a series of pavilions that looks familiar to its neighbors, loosely sit on-site and domesticated by their surrounds. It perceives the Brunswick West as both hedonistic and collective, a social landscape where domesticity unfolded and intermingled with larger collective.
