Academic Skills (AS)

The AS unit offer advice and instruction on academic and language skills. They cover a broad range of academic skills, including researching and writing, exam preparation, oral presentations and more. Their mission statement is: “To assist local and international students to maximise their independent learning potential by developing academic skills, language proficiency and graduate attributes”. Students requiring any sort of academic assistance – for example with essay writing, note-taking, reading strategies, time management techniques, exam preparation strategies - are encouraged to book an individual tutorial with AS staff. Tutorials can be booked via the Environments and Design Student Centre.

CourseWorks is an online, interactive, flexible academic skills program for coursework graduate students, and billed as the online home of graduate coursework students. Topics covered include getting started in your course, making contact with other students, organisation and time management, research and writing, learning styles and critical thinking. CourseWorks is part of the larger AIRport resource for new students. Gate 5 - Graduate short course  has been specifically developed to assist students develop graduate academic writing skills.
